Obituary for Marilyn Wanda Darras D'Haudressy

Marilyn Bangs-Darras D’Haudressy (nee Peters)
February 7, 1948 – June 5, 2019

Marilyn was born in Windsor, Ontario in 1948 but lived most of her adult life in Calgary, Alberta where she raised her son.

She is survived by her loving husband and true companion of forty years, Bryan Darras, her son Michael (Colleen), grandchildren Aidan and Ava and her brothers Al (Theresa) and Rick Peters.

Marilyn was known as a straight-shooter, never afraid to share her thoughts – but those who loved her would also describe this small, but mighty, lady as having a deeply empathetic heart and the kindness to go with it. She was immensely proud of her son Michael and though she claimed to be a technophobe, she learned to navigate Facebook so that she could keep up with the big moments in her grandchildren’s lives. She was famously organized, still typing notes as reminders that could be found in places that would not go unnoticed and somehow managed to live a life without clutter.

She and Bry lived simply, spending many happy years camping with friends east of Calgary at their spot at Calderon Acres. She is gone much too soon and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be hosted on Saturday, June 15, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at 3104 - 49 Street SW. To view and share photos, condolences and stories of Marilyn, please visit

Say not in grief that she is no more
But say in thankfulness that she was
A death is not the extinguishing of a light
But the putting out of a lamp
Because the dawn has come.
