As she has been called Home to be with her Father in Heaven, we sadly say goodbye to Marijke Martin beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Marijke passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at the age of 77. She is survived by her son, Randall (Dorothy); three grandsons, Andrew (Brianne), Christopher (Ashley), and Ethan; 4 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emmalynn, Thatcher, and Parker; her sisters, Hendrik Dohmeier, Tilly Roberts; sister-in-law, Doris Martin; brother, John Schipper and brother-in-law, Melvin Martin as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Marijke was predeceased by the love of her life, Marvin, who passed away on April 18, 2019, after 54 years of marriage; by her parents, Hendrik and Jennigje; daughter, Elizabeth; sister, Ans Farrelly; brothers-in-law, Ben Martin, Herb Martin, Lou Dohmeier, Jim Farrelly, and Stan Roberts and sisters-in-law, Esther Muhlbeier, Sandy Schipper and Viola Martin.

Marijke was born on April 26, 1943, in Hilversum, Netherlands. The family crossed the sea to Canada when Marijke was 8 years old. She grew up in Medicine Hat. As a young woman she worked for Purity Dairy, which she often spoke of fondly. Active in her church, she found the love of her life, Marvin. Together they moved to Calgary and raised their family. Marijke and Marvin shared a love of music. Marijke was an active member in her church community playing the organ, piano, and singing in several choirs over her years. Marijke worked many years for Scotiabank where she developed lifelong friendships.

Marijke loved her family, she was an invested mother and grandmother. She was promoted from ‘Grandma’ to ‘GG’ as she poured love into her precious Great-grandchildren. Many received the gifts of her handiwork; sewing, knitting, crocheting, advising, supporting, and always loving, she lived life generously. Many fond memories were made camping, hiking, and playing together. An adventurous soul that treasured numerous road trips with her loving husband. She lived life on her terms and always called the shots - even to the end.

A Celebration of Life for family and close friends will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at 11:00 am. Marijke’s celebration can be viewed via live stream using the link below:
