Obituary for Marian Eleanor Pearson (Thomassen)

Marian Eleanor Pearson (Thomassen)
July 29, 1933 - July 25, 2020

Marian Pearson of Calgary died on Saturday, July 25th, just shy of her 87th birthday. Marian was born in Blairmore and spent the first half of her childhood in Banff where her parents ran a hotel. Later, the family moved to her mother’s hometown of Langenburg, Saskatchewan. While completing her lab tech training in Saskatchewan she met and married Len Pearson. The couple settled in Calgary and raised their family.

As an only child, Marian developed a great sense of independence and had a “do it yourself” attitude all her life. She had energy to spare, and she was an active volunteer; She volunteered her time at Jennie Elliott School library, delivered daffodils for the Canadian Cancer Society and canvassed for the Canadian Diabetes and the Heart and Stroke Foundations. She loved to curl in the winter and golf in the warmer months. In her late forties, Marian returned to the workforce, and worked as a manager at Kacz’ Kids for many years. After retiring, Marian was happy to spend (a lot!) more time playing golf and bridge with her close group of friends. She enjoyed a pre-dinner G & T right up to the last week of her life. She was a great reader and patron of the library.

Marian is predeceased by daughter, Karen and survived by daughters Shelley and Renee and granddaughters Adrienne and Laura and their families.

We’ll celebrate Marian’s life together at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Calgary Public Library Foundation .

Thanks to the terrific staff at Chinook Intercare Hospice who cared for Marian in her last month.
