Obituary for Manuel Segundo Cattabeni (Cattabeni Jara)

Manuel Cattabeni
June 15, 1946 - January 3, 2021

Manuel, husband of Gloria Cattabeni Paredes, of Calgary, AB passed away Sunday January 3, 2021 at the age of 74 years. Along with his wife of 50 years, Gloria, Manuel is survived by his children, Pamela (Marcelo), Giorgio (Barb), Andrea (Rudy), Giannina (Brett); grandchildren, Christina, Stephanie, Isabella, Diego, Apollo, Marcello, Eliana and Riley.

Manuel was born in Santiago Chile on June 15, 1946, the middle child to Manuel Cattabeni Jimenez and Maria Elena Jara Reyes. He loved his parents dearly and will be missed by his younger brother, Carlos; older sister, Maria Antonieta; nephew, GianCarlo; niece, Carla and many other family and friends.

In Chile, Manuel built a successful business and lab servicing many communities in the Santiago area. Manuel prided himself on superior workmanship and had an attention to detail like no other. Manuel was a kind and generous employer and treated his employees like family helping them open their own businesses under his tutelage. Amongst his many gifts and talents, Manuel was also a teacher who was an inspiration to many college students. He passed on his vast understanding of the field paving the way for many technologists to follow in his footsteps. He moved to Calgary in 1988 and continued his work as a Dental Technologist for 22 years before retiring in 2010.

Manuel was an avid athlete who enjoyed running, cycling and karate. While shopping wasn’t high on his list, you could often find Manuel walking circles at the Mall to keep active during his lunch break. Manuel was very sociable and well-liked and had the ability to walk into any room and make all who were present feel loved and welcomed. He had a smile that would light up any room and his positivity naturally drew people in. Both Manuel and his brother were passionately involved in scouting as troop leaders planning and organizing camps and jamborees. Of all the things Manuel loved, it was his family that meant the most to him.

The family would like to thank the staff at Peter Lougheed Centre in Unit 43 and at George Boyak for Manuel’s end of life care. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made directly to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
