Obituary for Jean Young (nee Gamble)

Mamie “Jean” Young, the beloved wife of Robert Young, passed away Sunday, 24 April 2022, after a courageous fight with lung disease encircled in the loving arms of her family. Up until the very end, she was brave, loving, and full of concern for the family she loved.

Jean was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta, in 1944, and was the daughter of Archie Gamble. After marrying the love of her life, Robert, Jean enjoyed a life of travel through his work. Two of her favorite places they lived were South Africa and Texas. No matter where they lived, their home was a place of love and refuge. Jean truly enjoyed working in the jewelry trade, and also her time in real estate sales. She was an expert at bridge and enjoyed playing and also teaching others the game. She was a very creative person and enjoyed multiple different hobbies. She also truly enjoyed garage sales, and always looked forward to a day of hitting the sales with her best friend, Elaine Belliveau.

Perhaps Jean’s best quality was her capacity for empathy and love. There was always a place in her house and time in her life for people that were lost or drifting, and needed love and kindness. Over the course of her life, she touched a great deal of people whose lives were better for having had her in them.

Jean had three brothers, Buddy Craig (whom she so looked forward to seeing on the other side), Bobby Gamble, and Walter Storey. She had five children, Brant (Cheryl) Young, Paul (Nikki) Young, Carmen (Rod) Bushfield, Janice (Lance) Lang, and Jody Good. She loved spending time with them, and all five could testify that a three hour conversation with their Mom could go by in a flash. All would also agree that she had a fantastic sense of humor, and all had funny stories of being the unwilling victims of her jokes as teenagers! She had six grandchildren that she loved and loved her, Claire Bushfield, Robert Young, Matthew Young, Emily Young, Lauren Young, and Holly Young.

There will be no Memorial Service for Jean. She asked that her family gather next summer at the farm and have a bar-b-que and Celebration of Jean’s Life.
