Obituary for Luka Bjazevich

Luka Bjazevich
July21,1937 - October 16,2020

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, husband, grandfather and friend Luka Bjazevich. Luka lived a very eventful life. He was born in Komiza, Croatia and lived as a refugee in Italy until he immigrated to Edmonton in 1957. He eventually moved to Calgary where he met the love of his life Anica. They then married and had 2 children together, John and Debbie. He worked 6 days a week as a carpenter and was still able to buy and run an apartment building, while still being a wonderful husband and father.
Luka had a huge love of life, fish, fishing and making wine with his best friend Art Brown. They also loved to spend time away together problem-solving issues at the apartment. Luka had a huge affection for his grand daughters Sophia, and Autumn, and spoiled them relentlessly.

His favorite pastime was spending time at home with all his family and friends to eat, especially fish. He loved talking to anybody (stranger or not) and laughing.

Luka is survived by his loving wife, Anica, his children Debbie and John, his son in law Ron, and his granddaughters Sophia and Autumn, his extended family, and also by his many, many, friends.

Luka so sadly passed away from COVID-19 related pneumonia Friday, October 16, 2020 at the South Health Campus. He will be forever missed, and cherished.

We will be holding a small mass at the Croation Catholic Parish (14675 Deer Ridge Drive SE, Calgary, AB) on Friday, October 23, 2020 at 7:00 pm. Please arrive a few minutes early. The family request that there be no flowers. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Luka’s memory to Calgary Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.

Remember him with a smile today,
He was not one for tears.
Reflect instead on memories of all the happy years.
Recall to mind the way he spoke,
and all the things he said.
His strength, his stance,
the way he walked,
remember these instead.
