Obituary for Linda Pearl Wood

Linda Pearl (DeMelt) Wood, age 68, passed away on Saturday May 7th, 2022. She was surrounded by her family on her acreage outside of Calgary, Alberta.

Linda was born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on August 12th, 1953 to Stuart DeMelt and Vivienne (Beck) DeMelt. She was the youngest of four children. During her youth Linda was an avid athlete and was a Caribou Carnival Princess. Linda met her husband Garth Wood in Yellowknife and they were married on December 20th, 1975. She was a cherished member of the community, having owned a local northern store called Polar Parkas, which she started with her mother in 1979 and continued until 2006. Linda was very involved in her church, local sports teams, and many other community groups. Her home was always open to everyone. Throughout all this, her family was her priority; whether it is was picking them up from school everyday, homeschooling for a time, coaching her kids sports teams, traveling the world with them; the list goes on and on. Her retirement job was working for a northern airline as a ticket agent. This allowed her to see & visit with many familiar faces as they came and went from Yellowknife’s airport. Linda moved to Calgary and quickly became an appreciated member of Mountain Springs Calvary Chapel; where she again made a lasting impact on the lives of many.

Linda is loved and missed by her husband, Garth; her five children, Tracey (Lance), Kiely (Craig), Chad, Travis (Sage), and Tanay (TC); her nine grandchildren, Derian (Dustin), Danika, Desirae, Audria, Aven, Gabriel, Karter, Ayla, and Wyatt; one great–grandchild, Cohen; her mother, Vivienne (Frank); and her sister, Hazel (Murray) along with many, many others whose lives she touched.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at 4:00 pm at the Royal Oak Victory Church (450 Royal Oak Drive NW, Calgary, AB, T3G 5J7).

A campfire in Linda’s honour will follow at the home of Garth and Linda Wood.

Linda was passionate about advocating for the human rights of the tiniest humans. In remembrance of this, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations may be made in Linda’s memory to Canadian Physicians for Life or to Calgary Pregnancy Centre or to Cochrane Pregnancy Care Centre.
