Obituary for Lily Chiu Chu

LILY CHIU CHU, born on September 1, 1939 in Iloilo City, Philippines, was ushered into God’s glorious presence on June 2, 2020. She is now reunited with her husband of 59 years, Joaquin C. Chu.

Lily was an active and energetic woman who treated each new day as a gift from God. She always found something productive to do with her time. She would often cook, bake, sew, paint, and attend to her many thriving and beautiful indoor plants. Recently, she had even made a point to walk 10,000 steps every day.

Lily was a mother and grandmother who loved her family unconditionally. She is survived by her five children: Giselle (Nathanael) Ong, Frances Chu, Joy (Robert) Luke, Edwin (Helen) Chu, and Herbert (Christine) Chu. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to her twelve grandchildren.

Lily also cared deeply for her siblings, nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends. She would often spend time to contact each of them. She took the initiative to learn social media to keep in better contact as many of them are in different countries around the world.

Lily was a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. Since coming to Calgary in 2002, she attended Calgary Christian Assembly where she worshipped and enjoyed fellowship with her church family. She was a prayer warrior. She would spend time during her daily devotion to pray for family, relatives, and friends.

Lily will be sorely missed by those whose lives she has touched. To the confused, she provided direction and clarity. To the discouraged, she offered words of hope and encouragement. She was truly a wonderful person who will always be cherished.

Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding a Celebration of Life. We are unable to receive flowers as well.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love and words of comfort.
