Obituary for Lillian Grace Molineaux (McCoubrey)

Lillian Grace Molineaux

Our dear mother Lillian Molineaux passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a brief illness on Monday, September 28, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

Lillian was born in Provost, Alberta on May 30, 1932. Her family moved to Calgary where she attended Colonel Walker School from grades 1 to 9 and completed her education at Crescent Heights High School.
In 1952, Lillian married Joseph Molineaux and gave birth to 4 sons.

An avid gardener, Lillian loved flowers but also enjoyed the bounty of her vegetable patch. After her boys left home, she joined a bowling league at Gibson’s Bowling Alley and spent many afternoons looking for the elusive perfect game. Lillian took up the ceramic painting rage that was popular in the 70’s and made many beautiful objects as well as lifelong friends.

After the death of her husband in 1975, Lillian began working at Happyland Shoes for Children where she was adored by her customers, many of whom went on to bring their own children in for her knowledgeable advice. This was made possible by the fact that she didn’t retire until she was 76.

In her later years, Lillian could occasionally be found happily wiling away the hours with her sister Reenie, plugging nickels into the slot machines at Grey Eagles Casino.

Lillian was a long-time volunteer with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Meals on Wheels.

With Lillian’s passing, we have lost not only a wonderful, devoted mother but also the keeper of the family lore. If there was a date, a name or a story you were looking for, Lillian had it and most often with a surprising or hilarious anecdote to go with it.

Lillian is survived by her four sons, Dan (Susan), Ernie, Cam and Bruce; her two grandsons, Connor and Scott; as well her dog, Buddha.

Rest in peace dear Mom you will be deeply missed and forever loved.

At Lillian’s request, there will be no funeral. A private burial was held October 2, 2020.

The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care our mother received from everyone at the Rockyview General Hospital. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Lillian, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
