Obituary for Leonard Wilford Reimer

Leonard W. Reimer
October 27, 1925 – February 13, 2021

Leonard W. Reimer beloved husband, father and grandfather went to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the age of 95.

Leonard (Len) will be fondly remembered by his children, Harry (Bet Lou), Nancy (Ross), and Edie (Harry); his 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In addition, his stepchildren, Darlene (Larry), Dwayne (Shelly), Jim (Claudia), and Rod (Deanna) and 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Agatha of 45 years and his wife, Erna of 17 years, along with 13 siblings and numerous relatives.

Leonard was born on a farm near Linden, Alberta. He was premature at birth and so he was kept
wrapped in a blanket encircled by heated rocks. He met Agatha at a lumber camp where she was the cook. They fell in love and married in 1951. He and his bride enjoyed those early years of marriage, beginning with a bare piece of land, moving a small house on it, digging a well, building a barn and planting many trees along with a large garden plot. His love of music began on the family trips back and forth from Calgary where they would all sing together in the truck. They moved to Calgary in 1960 where he had his own construction company.

After Agatha’s death and a time of loneliness, happiness returned with his marriage to Erna and the
embracing love of her family. Together they cherished laughter, assembling puzzles, reading together and travelling. Leonard enjoyed fishing, golfing, Bible studies, Maranatha gatherings, hymn sings, senior lunches and choir concerts. A highlight for him was joining his family for coffee every Friday morning at McDonalds and later, the senior’s residence.

Len spent 6.5 years at the Scenic Acres Retirement Residence. We, as a family would like to thank the staff for their loving care of Len. Because of Covid restrictions, a Private Family Service will be held.

Leonard will be remembered for his gentle, quiet spirit. His character was humble, kind-hearted and loving. He was compassionate and generous in loving his neighbour, soft hearted and sensitive when thinking of other’s feelings. His greeting to you was met with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. The family has been blessed by the rich Christian heritage which he has given them.

In memory of Leonard, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committe or to Gideon’s International.
