Lavern Victor Brunen
January 21, 1960 – May 28, 2019
Lavern (Vern) Victor Brunen of Crossfield, Alberta passed away at the age of 59, with his family at his side, after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.
Vern was born in Kitchener, Ontario on January 21, 1960 to Joseph and Rita (nee Paradis) Brunen, the youngest of 6 children. He spent much of his childhood raised in Dauphin, Manitoba and as a young adult, moved to Calgary, Alberta where he would start his family and career in the automotive industry. Vern was most passionate about his dogs, horses, and field trialing and often would be found spending his free time hunting or training his dogs.
Vern is survived by his daughters, Alison and her children, Avery and Benson; his daughter, Melissa (Paul) and their child, Cason; siblings, Norma (Walter), Fred (Diane), Len (Jayne) and Dan (Lucille); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Vern is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rita Brunen and his brother, Jerry Brunen. His family is thankful to all his relatives and friends who crossed the country to visit him in his last days.
A Celebration of Vern’s Life will be held at the Crossfield Community Hall on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at 6:00 pm. All are welcome, and donations may be made in Vern’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation.
