Obituary for Lauren Liliane Marie Williams (Pollabauer)

Lauren (Lilian) Marie Williams
April 7, 1956 – December 28, 2022

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce our mother Lauren (Lilian “Lily”) Marie Williams passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at the age of 66 years, at her home at Providence Care Centre in Calgary, AB.

Lauren was born in Mont Jolie, Quebec to proud parents Erich and Ivy (Siewert) Pollabauer. Her father worked in the aviation industry and the family eventually moved to Moncton, NB where she grew up and built lasting friendships. She graduated from Harrison Trimble High School in 1974. Later attending St. Mary’s University and Oulton Business College.

Lauren is the proud mother of two sons, Keith (Michelle) Williams of Calgary, Alberta, and Shane (Charlène) Williams of Ottawa, Ontario. As the boys were growing up, you would often find her on the run tending to their hockey and sporting events or exploring their passion for airplanes and military ships in the Halifax harbour. She often proudly shared her greatest accomplishment was being a mom to her boys and watching them grow to become successful and compassionate men, husbands, and fathers. They each shared a special bond and humour with their mom. She will be forever remembered and lovingly missed by her greatest pride and joy, her three grandchildren, McKayla, Thomas and Fiona. Her spirit and legacy will continue to shine through them.

In addition to her children, Lauren is survived by her loving and devoted mother, Ivy of London, Ontario; sister, Karin (Larry) Gilroy and brother, John (Ghislaine) Pollabauer both of Moncton, NB; niece, Erika and nephews, Mark, Chris and Andrew; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in London, ON. She is predeceased by her father, Erich.

Lauren held many talents. She was an enthusiastic and gifted artist. She loved to design and create whether it be through paintings, sketches, floral arrangements, stained glass, sewing and designing clothing, makeup and esthetics, crochet, or creative writing. She had beautiful penmanship and expressed herself eloquently in the written and spoken word.

Lauren loved to meet new people and was able to quickly connect with others. This served her well through her professional career as she moved from New Brunswick to Nova Scotia, then Yellowknife before calling Alberta home.

She was a lifelong learner and held careers within the areas of public service with the RCMP, health care, real estate, and banking. She was strong willed, passionate, determined, and resilient. Not afraid to stand up for what she believed in, she didn’t back down from a challenge. Always known to crack a joke or tell a funny story, Lauren would bring smiles and laughs to faces through her playful personality. Her fondest moments were special celebrations surrounded by her family and friends.

In recent years, Lauren discovered a deeper connection with her faith and God as she struggled with complex health challenges. She felt she identified with the pain of the people that Jesus ministered which created a deeper appreciation for his teaching and ministry. Her faith become an anchor and source of comfort and encouragement. She longed to one day be able to walk again, and the family is comforted in knowing she is no longer in pain.

The family would like to thank the many doctors, staff and new friends she made at both Providence Care Centre (Ashwood Neighborhood) and Father Lacombe Home who took great care of Lauren as she transitioned to long term care and adjusted to her new surroundings. The pandemic presented many challenges, and the community worked hard to create a level of normalcy and navigate these unprecedented times.
