Obituary for Laird David Harkness

Harkness, Laird David
October 31, 1942 – April 1, 2022

Laird David Harkness died after a short battle with cancer. Laird was born in Pine Falls and grew up in Lac du Bonnett, Manitoba. He graduated from the University of Calgary with a BA in Political Science.

Laird was an exceptional people person and natural salesman. He enjoyed a long and successful career in sales at HomeTown Hardware, Beaver Lumber, and Canadian Tire, all in Calgary. After retiring, he kept busy working with the CBE, where he had memorable experiences with both the students and staff. He leaves us a slightly less optimistic world without him. He enriched the lives of the people who knew him as boss, mentor, and friend. Laird’s legacy was one of kindness.

He is survived by his twin brother, Lyle (Elsie); two nephews; and special cousin, Mrs. Francis Polley, all of Winnipeg, and the Jacques family of Calgary. Laird was predeceased by his parents, Ian and Edith Harkness and younger brother, Daryll.

Thank you for the outstanding care and personal kindness shown by the amazing staff of Unit 57 at the Tom Baker Centre. If family or friends so desire, donations made in Laird’s memory to a charity of their choice are welcome.
