Obituary for Kenneth Laird Clark

“Man is not measured by the greatness of his deeds, but by the greatness of his heart and his ability to love.”

Kenneth Laird Clark was born July 8, 1948 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and passed away on Friday, May 21, 2021 at the age of 72. He will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 34 years, Kelly; daughter, Kayla (Michael Holcomb) of Edmonton; sons, Thomas Clark and Alexander Clark both of Calgary; grandchildren, William, Patrick and Shannon as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Ken is predeceased by his father, Kenneth; mother, Eleanor and sister, Louis.

In 2019 Ken retired from Calgary Transit Access (Handi-Bus) after 17 years of service. He enjoyed providing a safe and caring environment while transporting many children and adults to programs all over the city. He had many friends in his career and will be missed by all.

Ken enjoyed many hobbies such as RV camping with family, annual trips to Cuba and his enthusiasm for all things football - Minor, CFL, and the Seattle Seahawks.

For the last 20+ years, Ken and his wife Kelly have been heavily involved in Calgary minor football. His obsession has been passed on to his three children, who have also taken on many roles within the football community.

Ken’s passion for football started back with the St.Burno Knights (Quebec) in his teen years, and continuing with the Montreal Alouettes (1968-1969) football team.

Most recently Ken was the Commissioner for the Calgary and Area PeeWee Football Association. This role for the past 7 years has been one of the most fulfilling. Ken started his volunteer role in community football with the Calgary Broncos, coaching at all 4 levels. His most enjoyable role was as co-head coach with Robert Watson at the PeeWee level, where he enjoyed mentoring the young players.

In lieu of flowers, as Ken believed in giving back, donations may be made in Ken’s memory to your local chapter of KidSport Canada, an organization that believes no kid should be left on the sidelines! .
