Obituary for Kathleen Agnes Rose McGinnis

Shortly after her 80th birthday, early on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, a brief but serious illness took Kathleen (Kay) Agnes Rose McGinnis from this world . Kay leaves behind her five children, Dean, Brian, Faith, Wade, and Gary and their loving partners. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Farren, Liam, Sarah, Callum, Joshua, Cameron, Lachlan, Lillie, Blake, Carter, Hosanna and Rain. She is further survived by her loving siblings, Margaret, Albert and Gordon and their families.

Kay was born and raised in Salmon Arm, BC. After leaving school she met her husband and started a family. They moved to several small towns throughout the BC interior which made her 20's challenging for her and her family. After turning 30, she settled in Calgary, with a focus on creating an easier life for her children. Despite her best efforts, she was forced to leave a failing marriage in the best interests of her children. As time passed, her children flourished, and times became less difficult. This chapter in her life lifted her spirit and she delighted in spending time with family and grandchildren.

Kay was a devout Christian who took her responsibilities to God and family seriously. She was fiercely private, extremely self-sacrificing, proud, dignified and above all, respectful and kind. Her moral compass never wavered, and she always chose the honorable route over an easier compromise.

Those closest to her already miss her dearly. Her preference for the simple pleasures included neighborhood walks, shopping close to home, simple meals and visits with family. This personal time will leave us all with big voids to fill.

A Memorial Tribute will be held on the May long weekend in Calgary, AB. Details will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that moral or financial support be directed towards addressing family violence.
