Obituary for Judith Ann Gerke (Sayles)

Judith (Judy) Ann Gerke
September 5th, 1953 - May 12th, 2021

It is with great sadness but also relief that we announce the passing and end of suffering of Judy Gerke, after a long 14 year illness of early onset dementia. Judy was born Judith Ann Sayles in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 5th, 1953. She was born the middle of five children. The family moved back to Calgary shortly after and Judy was raised a proud Calgarian who loved rooting for the Flames and Stampeders, and at times more so against the Oilers and Eskimos. An absolute amazing wife and mother of two, Judy was a funny, witty and intelligent woman who above all else was selfless and caring for those she loved. With an unbelievable work ethic both at home and at her job, Judy made countless sacrifices for her family to provide a great life for them. She was an athlete, playing fastball then later Slo-pitch as well as golf. She taught her sons how to skate and throw a baseball and was their number one fan at games.

Judy will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. She is predeceased by her husband Greg Gerke, mother Margaret Sayles, father Martin Sayles, and granddaughter Lyla Gerke. Judy is survived by her sons Steve Gerke, Jeff (Mika) Gerke, her sisters Joanne (Darryl) Pitzel, Barb (Neil) Lauzon, Sandy (Jim) Geib, brother Bob (Leddy) Sayles, niece Barb (Andy) Nigg, nephews Pat Lauzon, Paul (Brittany) Lauzon, Ian (Kayla) Lauzon, Michael Geib, Alex Geib, great niece Julia Nigg, great nephew Rory Lauzon and granddaughter Zoey Gerke.
