Obituary for Jonah Michael Rathje
Jonah Michael Rathje
October 21, 1998 – January 1, 2023
It is with profound sadness we share that our precious Jonah passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2023, in Calgary at the age of 24. There are no words to describe the heartache we feel. He is lovingly remembered for his thoughtfulness, kind and generous heart, mischievous smile, and quick sense of humor. Jonah had his struggles, but deep down he was a kind, gentle soul who loved deeply and who was deeply loved. Jonah gave his heart to Jesus at a young age, and we take great comfort in our confident hope that he has now found perfect peace and rest with Jesus forever. His weary wanderings are over, and he now knows exceeding joy in the presence of His Savior. Rest in peace, sweet Jonah, until we meet again.
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain…” (Revelation 21:4).
Jonah is survived by his parents, Steve and Marilyn Rathje; his sisters, Sara and Jana; as well as extended family and friends whose lives he touched over the years. We are all richer for having known and loved him and he will be missed more than words can say.
There will be no Memorial Service at this time, but a special gathering for family and friends to remember and honor Jonah will be planned at a later date. We are so thankful to family and friends who share our sorrow and for the many expressions of love and care.
