Obituary for John Gordon Sylvester

John Gordon Sylvester
1943-2022

John was born at home, passed away at home and is now forever at home with Jesus.

John was born and raised in Creston B.C. After grade school, he worked various jobs and earned his Electronics Repair Certificate.

In 1964 he married Else and they had 3 sons; Gordon, Glen and Neil. By 1971 John had earned his plumbing and gas fitters tickets, so the family moved to Calgary to pursue new career opportunities. After working a few years for other companies, John and Else started North Hill Plumbing & Heating and continued until John retired.

He enjoyed fishing, camping & restoring antique vehicles. John had a talent and ability to repair most anything, and greatly enjoyed each challenge. He was willing to help friends and others in any way he could.

John and Else were members of several antique car clubs and enjoyed many tours and activities with their friends.

John had a quiet faith in Jesus and a kind and gentle nature. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and dropped whatever he was doing when they came to visit.

He passed away peacefully at home, with loved ones holding his hands, after a lengthy illness.

John is lovingly remembered by: Else, his wife of 58 years, sons: Gordon (Lavonne) and Neil (Shelly), daughter-in-law Christine, grandchildren: Amanda Sylvester, Sydney Sylvester, Jordan Sylvester, Bethany Sylvester, Samantha Sylvester, Katelynn Sylvester, Christian Pontes and Carson Pontes, John’s sister Sue and sister-in-law Adeline. John will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his son Glen in August 2019.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Centre Street Church (3900-2 Street NE, Calgary, AB). For those who are not able to attend you may watch here LiveStream Link.

We truly appreciate all the love shown to our family as we thank God for John’s life and say good-bye for now. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to either
HART, The Humanitarian Aid Response Team or to The Samaritan’s Purse.

“God saw you were getting tired. And a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you. And whispered, “Come to me”.
