Obituary for John Friesen

John (Johann) Friesen
August 22, 1941 – January 25, 2024

John, the beloved husband of Sharron, of Okotoks, Alberta, passed away peacefully at High River Hospital on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at 82 years young.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of John, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Sharron of 55 years; son, Dwaine (Kathryn); grandson, Colton; step-granddaughters, Alyssa, Chelsey, Leanna; and great grandson, Calvin. He is survived by his brother and sisters, Elmer (Gaille) Friesen, Edna (Elmer), Delbert Friesen, Tina Peters, Alvina Wiebe, and Joyce (Wayne) Kroker. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, George and Jake; sisters, Mary and Diana; and one heavenly infant sibling.

John was born in Winkler, Manitoba to a family of 12 growing up on the farm in Steinbeck, Manitoba. He started his early working years as a skilled carpenter in Winnipeg and met Sharron during this time. Moving to Calgary in 1978, he continued his carpentry and taught his son the craft. He was an avid classic wrestling fan, enjoyed country music and had a great sense of humor. Considered a quiet man but had a deep and strong love for his family.

At John’s request a cremation has occurred, and the family will gather at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Dementia Society of Calgary would be appreciated.
