Obituary for Jeffrey Douglas Cox

Jeffrey Douglas Cox – September 30, 1965 – March 9, 2021

Jeff passed away from liver failure on March 9, 2021. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He was funny, charming, and charismatic. He was incredibly artistic and a fabulous chef. He could light up any room that he walked into. If you ever met Jeff, you surely would never forget him. Jeff lived big, loved big, and made an impact.

Jeff loved his family. He leaves behind his mother, Diane, sister Andrea, and brother Bryan (Shannon). He cherished his nieces, Lauren and Allyson, and nephew, Hudson. He joins his beloved father, Doug, in the great beyond, where they are surely already sitting together on a sofa made of clouds, watching old movies and enjoying a good laugh.

Jeff was born in Toronto and moved west with his family to Edmonton in 1974. He attended Laurier Heights Elementary and then Brentwood College School in Mill Bay, B.C. It was here that he fell in love with the Pacific Ocean and the laid-back West Coast lifestyle.

He returned to Edmonton for high school and attended Ross Sheppard High School, where he excelled at sports, in particular football, and was immensely popular. There was no doubt that Jeff Cox was the life of the party.

After high school, he moved to Calgary, where he spent the remainder of his years.

Travelling was important to Jeff. He enjoyed venturing to little known locales in Mexico, South and Central America and Asia where he could connect with the people and the local cuisine. Canada’s west coast was his happy place - the old growth trees, the sea, the beaches - all brought him solace.

Jeff was like MacGyver in the kitchen; he could whip up a gourmet meal with minimal ingredients, spinning grand tales while he cooked.

On his brightest days, Jeff listened without judgement and laughed without reservation; he truly saw people, their good and their struggles. He was empathetic and kind, because he too had his own struggles. In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider reaching out to others. Ask people how they are doing and then really listen, just like Jeff did.

The family would like to thank the dedicated and caring staff at the Rocky View Hospital in Calgary for making Jeff’s final days comfortable.

In Jeff’s honour the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life where friends and family can share stories, eat some delicious food and laugh. The date is dependent upon COVID restrictions and when known, the details will be posted on choicememorial.com.
