Jean Marie LaPointe Mihalcheon
October 10, 1929 - July 17, 2022

Jean Mihalcheon nee LaPointe passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at the age of 92.

Jean will be lovingly remembered by her four children, Jim (Donna) Mihalcheon, Jane (Gord) White, Gail (Lauren) Boldt, and Grant (Iryna) Mihalcheon; grandchildren, Sean (Andy) Mihalcheon, Pete (Kandy) White, Danielle (John) Eddy, John White, Michael (Jasmine) Boldt, and Andrew Boldt; great grandchildren, Bodhi Mihalcheon, Noah, Sophia and Georgia White, Josh, Caleb, Sam and Ben Eddy; siblings, Bob (Anne) LaPointe, Blanche Maguire, Marie (Bob) Klombies, Joe (Jacquie) LaPointe, Dan LaPointe, and Fred (Arlene) Bader; sisters-in-law, Bernice LaPointe, Irene LaPointe and Betty LaPointe, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Georgina LaPointe; granddaughter, Lindsay White (1987); husband, George (2011); and siblings, Charlie, Raymond, Irene, Yvonne, Louis, Paul, and Joe Ernest.

Jean was a renowned artist who played an active part in the Alberta art community. Her ceramic and other art works can be found throughout public collections owned by the City of Calgary, the province, as well as Canada House in London, England, corporate and private collections across Canada and Internationally. Among the boards she served on were the Alberta Arts Foundation Board, as well as part of the founding group for the Alberta College of Art and Design.

With joie de vivre, a generous loving nature, and creative energy to spare, Jean leaves family and friends to remember her with delight, immense love, and great admiration. Jean’s internment was held on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Queen’s Park Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life.

We would like to thank the staff at Newport Harbour Care Centre for their excellent care of Jean throughout her years there, as well as the staff at Peter Lougheed Hospital Unit 42 during Jean’s short illness.
