Obituary for Janice Marlene Stuggert

Janice Stuggert
October 28th, 1955 - February 9th, 2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Janice (Jan) Marlene Stuggert on February 9, 2020 at the age of 64. Jan passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital surrounded by loved ones after a sudden and short battle with cancer. Jan is survived by her loving mother, Ilona (Helen) Stuggert, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Jan was preceded in death by her doting father, Albert (Al) Stuggert.

Jan was born and raised in Calgary. She attended Ernest Manning High School and Mount Royal College. Jan lived for a short time in Vancouver before returning to the city she loved. Jan was a proud small business owner. She relished growing her business and building many relationships through her company, Janco Training Solutions Inc. Due to Jan’s genuineness and strength of character, many of her business contacts became lifelong friends.

Jan, an advocate by nature, was proud to have received an award from the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering for her contributions to workplace safety in 2017. In both her professional and personal life, Jan was tenacious, loyal, independent, and outspoken. Sincere and direct to a fault, Jan’s candour sometimes bordered on caustic, but those lucky enough to be close to Jan knew her to be caring and fiercely protective of those she loved. To her end, Jan was a devoted and dutiful daughter, prioritizing her mother’s well-being even as she contended with a catastrophic diagnosis.

Jan, who rejected pomp and frivolity, and ever true to her forthright nature, made it abundantly clear that she did not want a formal ceremony when her time came. With respect, we honour Jan’s wishes. Everyone who remembers Jan is asked to celebrate her life in their own way. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society (cfbts.org ) or the John Petropoulos Memorial Fund (jpmf.ca ) could be made in her name.

The family would like to especially thank Jan’s close friends who offered their thoughtful assistance these past few weeks, and the compassionate doctors and nurses in Palliative Care unit 47 of the Foothills Hospital. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family, via the Choice Memorial website: choicememorial.com. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Choice Memorial Cremation & Funeral Services (403) 277-7343.
