Obituary for Janet Emma Purdy (LeBlanc)
JANET EMMA PURDY
Janet Purdy (LeBlanc), 55, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020, at home, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Zacherie and Emma LeBlanc, May 14, 1964, in Fredericton, NB. Janet graduated from Moncton High School in 1982, and from the Stenography program at the New Brunswick Community College in 1983. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Mary’s University (Halifax) in 1996, followed by a Bachelor of Education Degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in 1998.
She married her husband, Ian Purdy in 1988, and moved to Halifax, NS, prior to moving to Calgary, AB in 2004. Janet is survived by her husband, Ian Purdy; and by two children, Rebecca (Becky) Purdy, and Tyler Purdy. She is also survived by three brothers, Donald LeBlanc, Alfred LeBlanc and George MacKinnon.
Janet wasn’t afraid to take on a little adventure. At the age of 13, as a shy young teenager, she joined the Royal Canadian Army Cadet movement. Over the next 6 years, she would learn valuable leadership skills, participated in the band, weekend survival training, canoe trips, and target practice on the range. In 1981, she was selected for the National Leadership and Challenge course in Banff, A.B., hiking through the Canadian Rockies, Mountain Climbing and White Water Canoeing. After moving to Halifax, she continued to enjoy backpack trips as well as canoe trips. As an Adult, she took up Scuba Diving with her husband. On the first Scallop dive she came out of the water as excited as a kid in a candy shop. She knew how to enjoy the simple things in life! In Alberta, she continued to enjoy hiking, and looked forward to the annual bike trip on the Legacy Trail from Canmore to Banff. Nothing put a bigger smile on her face than going for a ride on her motorcycle.
As a young adult, she started a new chapter in her life, heading back to university to start a new career. Six years later, with two degrees in hand, she started her dream career as an educator. After transferring to Calgary in 2004, she was lucky enough to start her dream-dream job, as a kindergarten teacher. She would come home from work and say, “I Love my job, I love my kids.” She loved her students, and her students loved her!
Despite all of her life’s experiences, these were only a part of the things that defined her. First and foremost, she was a child of God, a mother and a wife. Family meant everything to her.
First and foremost, Janet was a dedicated Mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Her life revolved around serving her family, her church family and friends. She had a beautiful spirit and a servant’s heart!
In the future, we will arrange a Celebration of Life, an opportunity to say Good-Bye and share Janet’s story. We will ensure that all family and friends are notified in advance.
