Obituary for James Donald Gniazdoski
James Donald Gniazdoski was born on September 7, 1948 in Dauphin, MB. He is home now with the Lord.
For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:21
This was a special scripture for Jim as he was born again and received Christ Jesus in April, 1986.
Jim wanted to share life with others. His daughter, Naomi, described how she and her dad would spend time at the Mustard Seed shelter when she was growing up. There they would sit and play chess and her dad would share about God with others. Naomi described her dad as someone who lended a helping hand to many.
His wife Debbie often found Jim in lively conversations and sharing the gospel message with many over the years. He would often be found studying the Bible in a coffee shop, reading Bible commentaries such as those by William R. Newell and he seemed to be given to a deep understanding of God's Word and passionately seeking and inquiring after the Lord.
Jim was a journeyman carpenter and worked very hard and diligently at any job he took on, whether at work or at home. He was very much a creative person with a mind for order and details as well. He enjoyed gardening and growing flowers, herbs and vegetables. He was a good cook and enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with others.
Jim loved his children, son Nathaniel and daughter, Naomi (Gord) and granddaughter, Ondreah.
Jim also loved his wife Debbie with such amazing grace. She will always remember him as her best friend and husband who loved the Lord and loved others, and was full of life and enthusiasm. Jim was often described as a gentleman by others. She remembers his graciousness, his constant and caring encouragement and forbearance, his sound advice and teaching of scripture, his hard work and diligence and his gift of faith, saying Thank You, Jesus! Jim was given to seeing the inside of others rather than the outside.
His dear friend Colleen noted Jim's great sense of humor and joy, as well as his dignity.
His dear friend Travis remembers how Jim was a mentor to him and many others, passionately encouraging others that by just trusting in Jesus they have every spiritual blessing right now!
His sister in law Patty said that Jim inspired her and with Jim's joy and passion for the Lord, Jim gave her incentive to go deeper with her walk with the Lord.
Jim was treated for cancer for many years and he bore the suffering he endured with great forbearance. Jim often would say that he was in the Lord's hands and he indeed placed his trust in the Lord. Jim often cited 2 Corinthians 4:17.
For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.
And we believe the promise in 2 Corinthians 5:1 where its says: For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
