Obituary for James Franklin Doyle

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that James “Jim” Doyle passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 14th, 2020 after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

Jim was born and lived his childhood on the family farm in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and became a Mechanical Engineer. He met his wife in Arvida, Quebec while both working for Alcan Aluminum. They moved to Alberta in 1968 and began a successful life together. Jim worked his entire career in the Oil and Gas industry where he had many professional accomplishments and made many dear friends. Jim was a hard-working, do-it-yourself, strong and silent type but he also had a booming laugh that could fill a room. He was kind and gentle and could be counted on when work needed to be done, something needed to be fixed and when someone needed a hand. Prior to his illness he donated blood more than 250 times to the Canadian Red Cross. He loved to travel, the outdoors and to hunt big game in the foothills of Alberta. He had a keen interest in his family history and genealogy and was instrumental in maintaining connections with distant relatives in Norway. He also loved everything about aviation and spent many years building a Rutan Long EZ aircraft.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Aline, his children Stephan (Kimberleigh), Leilani and Aaron (Kira), and his grandchildren Theo, Annika and Penelope. He is also survived by his siblings Roger (Marilyn), Arlene, Colleen (David) and Vernon, his Aunt Mary, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Russell and Alma and his brother-in-law Ernie.

The family would like to thank Jim’s caregiver Michael Turay, who provided Jim with many years of the care, compassion and dignity that he deserved. We would also like to thank our mother’s sister Marlène who provided so much support in the last few years and weeks to both Jim and Aline. Finally, we would like to thank the other caregivers, doctors, nurses and other health care professionals over the years who provided comfort and care to our family.

While we are sad that he is no longer with us, we are relieved that he is now at peace. We are also grateful for the many memories and in admiration of the life he lived and the legacy that he left. We welcome stories, photos and condolences as well as donations to the MS Society of Canada. A celebration of life will be held at a later date when the warm days return and the Covid19 pandemic is over.
