Obituary for Mike Budd

James Michael (Mike) Budd
March 20th, 1950 - April 30th, 2022

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of British Navy Veteran James Michael (Mike) Budd in the early morning of Saturday, April 30, 2022. Surrounded by his loving wife, Diane and son, Christopher. Mike went peacefully to be with God at the age of 72 in Calgary, Alberta. Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years and lovingly remembered by his son, Christopher Budd (Andrea); beloved grandchildren, Scarlett and Elizabeth; sons, Steven Demeo (Alicia), and Derek Demeo; sister, Josie Jenkins (Alan); brother, Gerard Budd (Paula), and countless loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in both Canada and Cardiff, Wales.

Mike was born and raised in Cardiff where he joined the British Navy at the age of 15. As a young man, Mike traveled the world. He eventually landed in Canada in 1979 and began working at the Calgary Airport. There he met his wife, Diane and her two boys, Steve and Derek, and in 1984, completed his family with the arrival of Chris.

Over the years Mike accomplished many great things, such as becoming a Grand Master for the Crossfield Masonic Lodge, earning his accreditation as a power engineer, and proudly becoming the Mayor of Crossfield and serving on town council.

After retirement, his focus shifted to building intricate models of ships, submarines, and planes but his most cherished time was colouring and playing Polly Pockets with his two young granddaughters.

We would like to thank the staff at Tom Baker Cancer Centre for the exemplary care he received.

A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held at Crossfield Community Hall (900 Mountain Avenue, Crossfield, AB) on Sunday, May 29, 2022. The doors will open at 1:00 pm with the Celebration of Life to commence at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow. All friends and family are welcome.

“As long as we have memories, yesterday remains. As long as we have hope, tomorrow awaits. As long as we have love, today is beautiful. As long as we have faith, anything is possible.”
