Irene Dora Shortt, beloved wife of the late Douglas Shortt, passed away at the Bethany Lodge in Airdrie, AB on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at the age of 97 years.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her children, Heather (Ray) of Calgary, AB and Doug (Jill) of New Westminster, BC; grandchildren, Kim, Gord (Nicole), Rebekah (Garrett), Aaron (Cathy Jo); as well as 14 dear great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug Shortt.
Irene was born on August, 29, 1925 in Calgary. She was younger sister to brother, Hugh. She married Doug Shortt on April 25, 1946 at Hillhurst Baptist Church Calgary. Doug and Irene lived in Calgary for 13 years. During that time their two children, Heather and Doug were born.
They moved to British Columbia and in 1976, Doug and Irene went to the Philippines with OMF International. They returned to British Columbia from the Philippines in 1978. Doug served as BC, OMF Director for 17 years, and Irene lovingly served and hosted many. When they retired from OMF, they lived in Victoria, BC.
After Doug’s passing, Irene lived on there for one year before moving to Alberta to be close to Heather and her family. In her last years, she was very well cared for at Bethany Lodge, Airdrie. She passed into God’s full presence peacefully on May 2, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Irene’s memory to OMF International.
A Memorial Service for Irene will be held at RockPointe Church Bearspaw (255024 Lochend Road, NW Calgary) on Friday, June 23, 2023 at 10:00 am. A recording of the service will be available via YouTube.
