September 16, 1929 – August 20, 2020
Helen Kendrick passed away peacefully on August 20, 2020 at the Calgary Rockyview Hospital at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her husband Jim; sisters, Mary, Kate and Vivian; brother, Bill and son-in-law, Bert Ostroski. Helen leaves to mourn her son, Kirby (Donna); daughter, Joyce Ostroski; grandchildren, Nathan Kendrick, Kristin Coyne (Vinny - great grandson Grayson), Reese Ostroski, and Tracy Ostroski (Danny Mannix). She also leaves behind her brothers, Nick and Alec; sisters, Eva and Elsie and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was born on the family farm near Calmar, Alberta. She was the 6th of 9 children born to John and Joyce Kuta. She grew up on the farm and attended the Wilton Park School. After finishing school, she moved into Calmar to work. It was there that she met her future husband, Jim, who was working in the Leduc oilfields. They were married on December 22, 1949.
Helen and Jim bought a small trailer and for a few years travelled throughout Alberta moving to different oilfield locations where Jim was working. During this time, they had their son Kirby. Eventually they settled in Calgary and had their daughter Joyce. They stayed in Calgary, worked, and raised their family. Their four grandchildren became the apples of their eyes.
Helen and Jim were active individuals. They loved to camp, travel, golf, and enjoyed sports, particularly hockey and football having season tickets to both the Flames and Stampeders. Helen also curled for a number of years. After Jim’s passing she downsized and moved to the new community of Chaparral. There she made wonderful new friends. She loved to go for walks, coffee, and to the theatre with these great neighbors.
Mom cared deeply for all her family, immediate and extended. Throughout the years several nieces and nephews stayed with Jim and Helen. She welcomed them with open arms. Helen adored her grandchildren and was eager to babysit, attend their many activities, and spend time with them. She was so excited when her great grandson Grayson arrived.
Mom was upbeat and never let life get her down. She didn’t dwell on the past and always looked to the future.
Mom, you will be missed and forever loved.
As per Helen’s wishes there will not be a funeral service.
