Obituary for Helen Viola Jankey (Youngberg)

Helen Viola Jankey
July 22, 1934 – January 31, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a true angel. After a lengthy struggle with M.S. and numerous other serious health difficulties, Helen left us with the courage and dignity she displayed throughout her entire life. Helen approached each day with an infectious smile and an unwavering positive attitude that permeated all who knew her. Despite her significant physical limitations, she participated in life fully and appreciated the simple pleasures, such as watching hockey and eating butter tarts.

Although Helen had many health challenges, she gave back to the community in numerous ways. She founded the M.S. Society in Orangeville, Ontario and also helped to initiate the Annual Carnation Day Program to raise funds for the M.S. Society. When she moved to Calgary her efforts went in a new direction. She started a local chapter of the Osteoporosis Society and acted as president. For her efforts, she was awarded the status of “hero” from the Arthritis Society of Alberta. Helen actively participated in the Wild Rose United Church community where she drew strength and developed life-long friends.

Cherished wife of Raymond Jankey, whose love and commitment were resolute for over 69 years. Admired mother of Sharon (James) Jankey, Carol (Gary) Miller, Rae-Anne (Andreas) Roschlaub, Doug (Ann) Jankey, and Don (Carmen) Jankey. Proud grandmother of Michelle, Nicholas, Theodore and Charlie. Dear friend of Annabell McLean and Janice Clark.

The family would like to thank Carewest Colonel Belcher for their excellent care and love they demonstrated throughout the past 18 years.

Donations may be made in Helen’s memory to Wild Rose United Church of Calgary or to Calgary Health Foundation.

A private Celebration of Helen’s Life will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021.To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Helen, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
