Obituary for Grant McKeil Cameron

Grant McKeil Cameron passed away suddenly at the age of 63 on Wednesday, July 27th, 2022.

Grant is survived by his three children, Taylor (Jen), Leah, and Lucas, and his partner, Mary Carole Hanke. He also leaves behind siblings Bill Cameron (Julie), Bob Cameron (Louise ), and Lenore Cameron, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Grant was predeceased by his parents, William and Sylvia Cameron.

Grant was born in Hamilton, Ontario on June 18, 1959, and grew up in Ancaster, Ontario. A place with so many dear friends and fond memories that he always kept close to his heart. In fact he often brought back maple trees for many friends and families so they too could have a piece of his beloved hometown.

He moved to Calgary at 24 years old where he married Marcella Fortini, and where his three children were born. Grant worked hard to support his family. He was the ultimate craftsman and always said “as long as you could draw it” - I can build it!” Grant was always working on projects and loved fixing things for everyone he knew. Grant always drove his kids to their countless soccer games, gymnastics competitions, and was a great supporter for every game/competition, he seldom missed any of them.

After divorcing in 2012, Grant and Marcella continued to make the family a priority by always still celebrating most family and holiday occasions all together. Grant later met his partner Mary Carole in 2016. Mary Carole thought he had the kindest eyes. They loved to do all kinds of activities together but of course anything to do with cars like car shows were always number one. Driving to Banff and sending pictures of the mountains back home was a close second.

Grant split up his leisure time working on cars, making frequent trips to see friends and family in Ontario, and spending time with his kids. Grant loved working on cars with Lucas and was always on the lookout finding the next big project to work on. Grant loved going on dog walks and hikes with Leah and her dog Mia, who was the one other dog he grew to love besides his beloved Jake. Grant also loved his lunch dates with Taylor and conversations about science, he may have been the only one to read Taylor’s Thesis word for word! And even understood some of it!

Besides hanging out with his kids, Grant loved his sports, especially Football where he attended many Grey cups, with those Bluebombers being #1 with him. Grant also listened to talk radio and doing things with his hands. Grant always set aside time to help his friends and family. There is probably no one who knew him, that he hadn’t helped in some way, either custom building furniture or whole kitchens or helping them with their car, really anything you asked, Grant was happy to help.

He was a warm, social person who loved talking to people. It wasn't uncommon for him to strike up a conversation with a cashier, waiter, or someone with an old muscle car in their driveway. If you were with Grant, you had to make sure you had enough time for all the social connections he would make with everyone he met!

Grant was a great Son, Brother, Dad, Uncle and friend to many, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
