Obituary for Gerald Patrick Joseph

Gerald Patrick Joseph (Pat)
September 24, 1949 – December 28, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pat at the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks, Alberta on Monday, December 28, 2020.

Pat enjoyed life and was blessed with having a loving family and wonderful friends to share in his life. He met his childhood sweetheart at a Legion teenage dance in their hometown of Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 1967 and they had been together since that time.

Pat loved to dance in his youth and enjoyed watching every sport, especially hockey. In his spare time, he loved to fish and in later years became obsessed with playing golf. He and Myra loved camping and their children were raised enjoying the camping lifestyle. Pat loved hanging out with his “buddies” and we have all heard the stories of their many escapades. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He will be fondly remembered by his loving wife of 50 years, Myra (Collins); son, Christopher; daughters, Angela Price and Hannah-Rae Peterson (Paul); as well as his adored grandchildren, Nicole McGeein (Matthew), Taylor Price, and their father, Bob Price; siblings, Mike (Suzanne), David (Judy), Chris (Ada), and Marie Lundrigan (Don); sisters in law, Beulah Cooper (Harold, predeceased), Audrey Semaka (Frank), and brother-in-law, Terry Collins (Dot). He will also be remembered by a large circle of family and friends across Canada, England and the USA.

Pat was predeceased by his father, Patrick Joseph, and mother, Jacqueline Joseph (Matthews); Grandparents Fred and May Matthews, and Dufe and Josephine Joseph; in laws Edgar and Hannah Collins; as well as many other family members.

During the past year, Pat was blessed to experience the love and kindness of many people. The calls, texts and love shown were so appreciated. His visits in the hospital and after he came home by special friends, Marty and Beth Jensen; Peter, Sharon and Rachel Jones; and Patricia Ingratta were a source of comfort and happiness for him. His visit by his brothers Dave and Chris from Newfoundland this past fall was so special and a deep comfort for him, as he was able to say good-bye to them. Thank you to Wayne and Faye Oates from Corner Brook, and Joannie and Cliff Hynes for their calls and support from the other side of the country. Thank you also to Tanya O’Neill Robins and Patricia Nielsen for their kindness and support this past year.

Pat was so fortunate to have the nursing staff of unit 82 at Rockyview Hospital during his three-month surgical stay. A very special thank you to Lance Coleman for all his loving care of Pat. Thank you also to Michelle and the Homecare nurses; Dr. Foster, Tobi and the other nurses with Palliative Care who were so supportive in his care while he remained at home. Thank you to Dr. Ezaydi and staff at the Shawnessy Medical Clinic who were always so helpful. Special thanks as well to Dr. Kubanski and the amazing staff at the Foothills Country Hospice who made Pat’s last days comfortable. The staff were so kind to me and let me just be his wife and not his caregiver. I do not know what I would have done without them. They were my angels.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat’s memory to Foothills Country Hospice or call 403 995 4673. Their service is provided free of charge to anyone who needs it and much of their operating budget depend on donations.

Pat’s wish was to have a party to celebrate his life with family and friends. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we will be planning this later once the restrictions are lifted. To view and share photos, condolences and memories of Pat, please visit www.choicememorial.com.
