December 28, 2019 – Calgary, AB
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Russell George Eklund of Calgary, AB, which occurred after a lengthy battle with Kennedy’s Disease on December 28, 2019. He passed away in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 73. Russell is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy Eklund; son, Clinton (Shelley) of Calgary; daughter, Anita (Chad) Sankey of Rhode Island; grandchildren, Jasmine, Jordan, Gabriella and Isabella who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his brothers, Danny (Verna) Eklund of Calgary and Clifford Dillon of Lethbridge, along with, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents George and Margaret Eklund; 3 brothers, Walter, Erik, and most recently in June of 2019 Roy Eklund of Edmonton.
Russell was born on December 6, 1946 in Assiniboia, SK; married Nancy in 1966, and moved to Calgary in 1967. Russell loved being in the wilderness and was an avid big game hunter and fisherman. Russell was a truck driver, traveling across North America and made many friends along the way. He also owned a small construction company running backhoes and worked with Enmax for many years until he retired. He was very mechanical and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix.He loved being around friends and family and was always there to give a helping hand. He loved to tell tall tales, jokes, and pulling pranks. He loved life and being around people.
A Celebration of Russell’s Life will be held at Choice Memorial (105 4715 13th Street NE) on January 2, 2020 at 1pm. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ALS society.
