Garbutt, Garry Eugene
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Garry on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at the age of 71 years. Garry was born in Oyen, Alberta to the parents, Archie, and Opal Garbutt. He was the youngest of four children. Garry came to Calgary at the age of 17 and made Calgary his home with the exception of a few years where he lived in Victoria, BC. Garry was an avid sports person. He loved to play softball, bowl, and hunt, but his greatest love was fishing.
Garry is survived by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Melanie (Mark) Stinson of Bowsman, Manitoba; and three beautiful granddaughters, Emma, Seanna, and Ainzlee. He is also survived by his brother, Neil (Anne) Garbutt of Red Deer, Alberta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda Johnson of Red Deer, Alberta and brother, Ray of Chelsea, Quebec.
Garry attended SAIT in Calgary and became a carpenter where he excelled. Garry had amazing people skills and a great work ethic. He became Superintendent for numerous different construction companies, retiring from Landis Construction in 2010. Garry fought a hard battle with his health for many years with COPD and cancer, diagnosed in 2018. He passed away at home with his loving family at his side, after a five week stay at the Foothills Hospital. At this time, the family would like to thank Dr. Workum and the nurses in the hospital and at Palliative Care in Unit 47 for their loving care and support.
