Obituary for Frank Dieter Raddatz

Frank Dieter Raddatz
September 24, 1952 - April 30, 2022

Frank, aka Evil F, Fritzer, Dad, Grandpa/Papa has passed away. Frank leaves behind Debi, his wife of 44 years, and his three children, Stephanie, Rianna, and Mark (Alysa). Hardest for him to leave behind are his three grandchildren, Gabby, Jessalyn, and Jameson. Frank was the Grandpa who encouraged the grandkids to use the highest slide while remaining close by to catch them if need be.

Frank was a strong, selfless, capable, intelligent man. He was the best of the best and led by example. He was happiest when helping someone with a project; if he didn't know how to fix it he researched it until he did know.

Frank was a skilled and passionate hockey player who never turned down the chance to put on his skates. He played for the U of C Dinos for five years prior to heading to Germany for seven successful seasons with various teams where he made life-long friends. Upon returning to Canada he took over running the family business Raddatz Contracting until retirement. He was always active, whether playing hockey, coaching his kids, or proudly watching his children and grandchildren on skates; ice sports were in his blood.

Frank also leaves behind his three siblings, Betti (Doug), Roger (Lisa), and Connie, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and of course his many good friends. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Hans und Lydia.

Many thanks go out to all of the amazing people who cared for Frank on his journey, Dr. J. Kelly, Dr. M. Feruqui, Dr. P. De Robles and their staff at Foothills and Tom Baker. Frank's family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Southwood Hospice who cared for Frank in his final shift in his final game.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to KidSport Calgary or in support of the brain cancer research work of Dr. John Kelly at the U of C Cumming School of Medicine. Please make cheques payable to “University of Calgary” with “Frank Raddatz” in the memo and send to:
