Obituary for Francisco Teruel

Francisco Teruel
August 30, 1942 - January 11, 2023

Francisco Teruel loved the Lord Jesus Christ and, in the early hours of January 11, 2023, at the age of 80, went home to be with our Heavenly Father.

Francisco who was also lovingly known as Frank, Paco, Dad, Abuelo and Tio, was born on August 30, 1942, to Jose and Lucia Teruel in the little mountain town of Beas De Segura, Spain. He graduated high school and went on to become a gifted carpenter and builder. He was especially known for his beautiful handiwork and craftsmanship of his cabinetry and furniture. All his children have wonderful memories of his many projects in their homes from small repairs to full renovations and new kitchens!

In 1960, Francisco met his future wife, Manuela, in Linares, Spain at the local festival. They were married a few years later and shortly thereafter, true to his adventurous nature, they moved from Spain to Germany. A few years later, they were blessed to welcome their first child, Francisco. The adventure bug bit again, and they immigrated to Canada arriving in Montreal and eventually moving to Saskatchewan and finally settling in Calgary. During those years, they welcomed five more blessings; Juan, Manuela, Lucia, David, and Ruth. Now their family was complete.

Francisco spent his career as a builder and fine carpenter, but he was so much more than a carpenter, he was an artisan and craftsman. He started and ran his own business for many years where he did many commercial and residential projects. In the late 1980’s, he built his own home with his youngest son; a home that would allow all his children and their families to have plenty of room when they would visit. In 2010, Dad suffered and recovered from a stroke that would severely affect his left side. Even during that physical challenge, Dad would continue to complete carpentry projects and manage his rental properties.

Francisco loved his family of 8 which would grow to include daughters, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As much as he loved his family, he also had a profound love for his Savior. Francisco came to know the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior in 1964 at a church meeting in Germany. His life would forever be changed, and he would live to see the Lord do mighty miracles in his family. His family is so thankful for his salvation and are comforted that they will all meet again in glory and that his memorial is a celebration of his life and a farewell for only a little while.

Francisco is survived and missed by his wife of 59 years, Manuela; his children, Francisco (Rhonda), Juan (Becky), Manuela (Jeff), Lucia (John), David (Marjorie), and Ruth (Adam). There will be cherished memories by his 18 grandchildren, Michael (Morgan), Lisa (Jared), Robyn (Seth), Jeremy, Rebecca (William), Benjamin (Evie), Jessica, Austin (Madeline), Daniella, AnaIsabel (Joey), Joshua, Caleb, Gabriel, Seth, Anna, Michaella, Oscar & Nicolas; his great-grandchildren who loved “Abuelo,” and who they met either in person or through FaceTime are Kai, Jett, Mosha, Maverick, Maine, Meadow, Caroline, Cooper, Carson, Rafael, Noah, and Hugo. Finally, Francisco is survived by his sister, Flores (Pepe); niece, Maria (Maurice) and nephew Jose plus each of their families that reside in Calgary, Alberta. There are also additional nieces, nephews, and in-laws that reside in Spain.

Well done good and faithful servant! You have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. We are so proud of you and look forward to our reunion in glory.

¡Bien hecho, buen y fiel siervo! Has peleado la buena batalla, has terminado la carrera y has guardado la fe.
