Obituary for Evans Ochieng Opondo (Opondo)

Evans Opondo
Sunday, February 7th, 1971 – Sunday, April 19th, 2020

It is with great sadness that we lay Evans Opondo to rest. Evans was born in Kenya and moved to Canada where he settled in Calgary, Alberta. He was surrounded by people who loved him and will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his widow, Janet Ochieng; son, Joshua Ochieng; daughter, Joy Ochieng and loving mother, Grace Midiwo. He left behind extended family, and many dear lifelong friends who were like family and meant the world to him. There are many people who loved and cherished Evans that we cannot even begin to list them all.

He worked with Unilever Tea Kenya Ltd, Kericho, Kenya right of college in a supervisory capacity. He worked with Central Bank of Kenya in Nairobi before coming to Canada, where he settled in Calgary, Alberta in May of 2008.

Here, he worked briefly with Hemisphere Engineering Ltd and later switched to CTM Design Services, where he has been a key member of the electrical department until his demise.
He loved sports, especially soccer, tennis and basketball and was a fan of Manchester United and an avid supporter of Toronto Raptors. He specifically loved the fried flat bread called 'Chapati' which he laughingly referred to as 'Ngozi ya Chui" (leopard spots).
We love you, we miss, and we will always remember you.

Evans was most proud of his wonderful family. He was an incredible Dad who has passed on his loving nature and positive disposition to his children, an aspect of parenthood often overlooked and ignored. He had the warmest smile, the biggest heart. All who knew him can attest to the fact that you could not ask for a better friend, father, husband, son and uncle.
Due to the COVID-19, a Private Graveside service will be attended by a total of fifteen people, including family, clergy and funeral staff.

All those who knew and loved Evans are invited to join the family for a Celebration of Life that touched many. This will be arranged for a later date depending on the eventual outcome of the Coronavirus. The information will be communicated accordingly.
