Obituary for Eugene George Lemire

Eugene Lemire
November 12th, 1924 - Wednesday, March 11th, 2020

Eugene (Gene) Lemire of Calgary, passed away at Newport Harbour Care Center on Wednesday, March 11th, 2020 at the age of 95 years.

He was the loving father of Karen (Bruce) Ferguson of Calgary, AB.

He will also be very lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Todd (Stacey) Ferguson and Jodi (Aaron) Dupont, and great grandchildren Lauren and Kendall Ferguson and Ryleigh and Blake Dupont.

From a previous marriage he is also survived by Gerry (Carmen), Ron (Donna), Rick (Edie), Brenda (Harry) Enns and their families, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene was predeceased by his wife Jeanne, father Emile, mother Delia, two sisters Anna and Irene, and four brothers Louis, Raymond, Curly, and Paul.

Eugene was born in Legal, Alberta on November 12, 1924. His family moved to Falher in 1927 or 1928. He spent his younger years in the Falher area living on a farm. He went to a boarding school from Monday to Friday in Falher.

When in Grade 8 his dad Emile unfortunately became seriously ill with pleurisy, and spent the remainder of his life in an Edmonton hospital. He passed a young man, being only in his forties.

After his Dad fell sick, Eugene being the oldest son had to leave school to help his Mother run things on the family farm. He certainly had to grow up quickly and become the man of the family.

At the age of 16, Eugene went off to work in the logging camps in northern Alberta which took him to realize his dream of becoming a mechanic.

He joined the Military early in 1943 and was discharged in summer of 1945. Upon his release from the Army, Eugene went back to following his dream of being a mechanic, eventually attending SAIT in Calgary to obtain his Red Seal Mechanic’s License.

Eugene met Jeanne in Edmonton in 1953, and they got married March 16, 1961. They were together until Jeanne’s passing on December 31, 2005.

If so desired, Memorial Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or any charity of your choice.
