Obituary for Esmaeil Poshtchaman

Esmaeil Poshtchaman
July 24, 1928 - April 24, 2021

Esmaeil Poshtchaman, beloved husband of Razieh Poshtchaman of Calgary AB passed away at Foothills Hospital on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

He was the loving father of Bahram Poshtchaman (Ida Poshtchaman) of Calgary AB, Bahman Poshtchaman of Calgary AB, Behzad Poshtchaman of Calgary AB, Behnam Poshtchaman (Farahe Fowzi) of Calgary AB and Saeid Poshtchaman (Grace Ann Poshtchaman) of Calgary AB. He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Kian Nicholas Poshtchaman, Tomas Arvin Poshtchaman, Benjamin Poshtchaman, Saba Poshtchaman, Aria Poshtchaman, Audrey Ann Poshtchaman and Sawyer James Poshtchaman. Esmaeil is predeceased by his parents and his two sisters and two brothers.

Esmaeil, the youngest of five children, was born on July 24, 1928 in Baku, Azerbaijan. When he turned 9 years old, his family moved to Tabriz, Iran. He met and married his beautiful Razieh at the age of 32 and together they raised 5 boys.

Esmaeil was a hard worker! He was well skilled in carpentry which allowed for a successful career in the construction industry. He worked in various steel manufacturing factories as well as on sites constructing houses, apartment buildings and bridges all over the country.

The Poshtchaman family immigrated to Canada in the 90s, where they settled in Calgary, Alberta. The outdoors was a second home to Esmaeil. He loved the fresh mountain breeze, making a fire, sunbathing, and enjoyed trips out of the city’s hustle and bustle.

Esmaeil made friends very easily. Whoever met him could immediately pick up on his pure heart and good intentions. He had a genuine charm and was always equipped with a quick joke that would fill any room with laughter and joy. He had the kindest heart! At the drop of a dime, he would without hesitation give a shirt off his back to a complete stranger.

Nothing made Esmaeil happier than chasing his grandchildren and making them laugh. When it came to them, he was a big kid at heart himself.

Esmaeil was a real foodie and loved experimenting to create the most unique “Esmaeil signature dishes.” Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on your luck, he even forced you to taste them.

Esmaeil was a very curious and inquisitive man who loved books, enjoyed learning about different cultures, languages and traditions. He spoke 4 different languages!

Esmaeil took fashion cues from no one! His everyday look was inspired by headwear. If not a toque, he would don his favourite newsboy hat or his newly acquired earmuffs.

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and Esmaeil’s time on this Earth ended on Saturday, April 24, 2021. We are grateful for the care he received at the Foothills Hospital. We appreciate that even during this difficult time his family were able to be by his side especially during his final hours. He lived a long, happy and successful life and we are grateful for our time with him. He is and will be dearly missed… our Baba Bozorg.

A Funeral Service will be held at Queens Park Cemetery on Thursday, April 29th at 1:00 pm.
Due to the current COVID protocols, we are allowed up to 20 people at the time of the funeral which would include immediate family only. However, if you would like to pay your respects in person, feel free to visit the gravesite at your own convenience. If you contact any of the family members, they can direct you to the exact location of his resting place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Esmaeil's memory are gratefully accepted by Alberta’s Children Hospital Foundation.
