Obituary for Emma Marie O'Brien (Campbell)

I love you to the centerfield fence and back. A race well run!

O’Brien, Emma Marie (nee Campbell)
April 30, 1926 – November 5, 2020

It pleased God to call our mother home. Her race is over, she has her crown, so she went to sleep to awake in the arms of Jesus. It is with heavy hearts, yet great spiritual joy that we announce our mother, Emma, left us in favour of her heavenly home.

Emma was born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, the fourth of nine children. As a young girl she played in the Stellarton Ladies baseball league; became of age during WWII and became known as Rosie the Riveter at the Pictou ship yards where she worked on battleships for the war effort. Her relationship with God guided her through her journey and was the foundation of how she lived.

In her passing, Emma reunites with her beloved son, Jack; grandson, Trevor; her parents, John and Stella (Young) Campbell; six brothers and older sister. Devoted mother of Raymond (Denise) of Kingston ON, Patricia (Jake) de Wit of Kitchener, ON and Kaitlen Tennant of Calgary, Alberta and lovingly remembered by Sam (daughter-in-law) of Calgary, AB. Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her sister, Agnes (Blair) Johnson of Plaster Rock, New Brunswick and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. Due to COVID-19, a Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Stellarton, Nova Scotia at a date later to be determined. In honour of her memory, donations to the Canadian Alzheimer Society would be much appreciated. Should you wish to send flowers, her family would prefer if you would please consider planting some blossoms in your garden to remember her fondly as you look upon them.

We would like to send our deepest gratitude to her long term caring physician Dr. Jeremy de Bruyn, the compassionate emergency department and Unit 43 at the Peter Lougheed Centre, her home care family from Bayshore and the gentle paramedics who attended to her.
