Obituary for Emily Vinabelle Picketts

Emily Vinabelle Picketts
October 28, 1941 – October 19, 2020

Emily sadly passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020 with family at her side.
Emily is survived by her husband, John Picketts of Calgary,AB and her 5 children, Kenneth (Annamie), Cheryl (James), Rodney (DeeDee), Laurie (Logan) and Sarah (Newman); 6 grandchildren: Amanda (Dustin), Charles, James (Amanda), Kara (Anthony), Emily (Tyson), Tannish (Patrick ); 3 step-grandchildren, Stephen (Victoria), Jennifer and Ryan (Emily); 1 great-step-grandchild Sirena; and her 6 great-grandchildren, Zenneth, Kinsley, Theodore, Aspyn, Eleithya, and Jeremy. Emily is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Emily Allen of Red Deer, Alberta; her sister Shirley and her husband Anthony of Hamilton, Ontario.

Emily was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, she moved to Burnaby, BC and attended school, she participated in Girl Guides and Badminton where she won a championship. Then she moved to Red Deer, Alberta attended Red Deer College and received a teaching degree. Later on, she met John Leslie Picketts who she married in 1961, after having 2 children they moved to Calgary, and had 3 more children and was employed at one company for 25+ years and retired at age 60. After retirement they travelled across Canada by motorhome.

Emily Picketts was the “Rock” of her family. Emily enjoyed gardening, crochet, knitting, sewing, playing pool, golf, bowling and curling. She also had the strength of an ox!

We would like to thank the Staff on Unit 47 and the Radiologist team at the Tom Baker Cancer Center for taking care of Emily Picketts during her time there.
