Obituary for May Robinson

Elsie May Robinson
March 24th, 1939 - Wednesday, July 10th, 2019

We lost our beloved Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother suddenly on July 10, 2019 while she was visiting in Calgary.

Elsie May Hall was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on March 24, 1939 to Louise Lauridsen and Herbert Hall. The family moved to Ocean Falls B.C. where May grew up and made lifelong friends. She married her high school sweetheart Larry Robinson on June 28, 1957. May and Larry had three children, Dean, Rhonda and Audrey. The family moved throughout B.C, settling in Mackenzie B.C, in the early 1970’s. May was an executive secretary at BCFP Mackenzie for many years. May and Larry later spent time in Alberta and Saskatchewan as well. May later earned her Realtor license and she was a very committed Victims Services Volunteer when they lived in Whitecourt, AB. While in Whitecourt and retired, May and Larry bought a Taxi Business which they ran successfully for several years before retiring for a second time and relocating to Kelowna, B.C.

Mom was an amazing cook and meticulous housekeeper. Anyone socializing at their home knew to keep a firm grip on their glass for fear it would be washed, dried and put away before they even realized it was gone. “Dragon Lady”, as she was fondly referred to, loved animals which was evident when she visited her children’s homes. Mom loved to shop and Costco certainly won’t be the same without her. Her ability to navigate a cart through the aisles at Costco was unmatched.

May was so proud of all of her children and grandchildren and loved bragging about all of their accomplishments. She was so thrilled to become a Great Grandmother with the arrival of Ben and Wesley and was so looking forward to the birth of the twins. May lost her life partner Larry on January 24, 2015 and was still finding her way through life without him by her side.

May is survived by her son Dean (Sigi); daughter Rhonda (Gary), and daughter Audrey (Donna); her grandchildren Brittany, Zachary (Morgan), Amy (Rob), Gare (Cierra); and her great grandchildren Benjamin, Wesley and soon to arrive twins.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to Calgary EMS and Fire for their amazing efforts to keep Mom with us. The compassionate care and understanding from the staff at Calgary Foothills Hospital won’t be forgotten.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Kelowna later this summer.
