Obituary

EILEEN MARTHA TRAKOSTANEC (nee WHITFORD)
September 10, 1937 to January 09, 2020

BORN TO BE WILD

I woke up this morning and I got myself a beer... Anyone who knew Eileen knows that those songs were her theme songs. Some of her favorite things: big old boat cars, long drives, mini skirts, Nike sneakers, licorice candy, popcorn, beers at the bar downtown Vancouver, a nice big steak, angels, eagles, fairies, horses, thrift stores and of course rock and roll. It was a rare occasion when she would share stories of her life, she giggled about the time when she was a girl, when she first went to school she didn't know how to speak English yet and the teacher asked her "what is your name?" and she repeated back "what is your name?" She was also fond of the time she spent nights on the town, where she insisted she was the best dancer around! She was very adventurous in her life, traveling around Canada and some in the States, always preferring to be on the road. She got her first tattoo when she was already a senior. Eileen had a sweet twinkle in her eyes when she smiled. She often appeared serious and stoic but she was kind and loving underneath her tough facade. She cared about people being well fed. She went on an epic 70th birthday to Las Vegas where she went to the wax museum and through a haunted house. We never seen her giggle so much as when we were chased through the haunted house by monsters, she also never moved so fast before! Eileen was also the coolest grandma around wearing Nike high tops, tight slacks and Tupac or Bob Marley t-shirts. She never let her hair grow out or get grey, often getting perms and always making sure to look her best. She liked to put on eyeliner, blush and big watches. She had dangling metal bracelets that she never ever took off. Eileen did not care who she offended and lived an authentic life. She would tell you exactly what she thought and her favorite thing to say was "oh brother". She also helped to create a large family line of children, grand children and great grand children. Eileen was exceptionally strong in her life, boy did she have a lot of hurdles to overcome but she always endured, even at the end. Nothing could stop her, she was stubborn. She was very much loved and when she went to Heaven she was in peace. Everything that could be done for her comfort and happiness was upheld with much respect and love. Even though her passing broke a lot of hearts, her smile and humor won't be forgotten. Now she is driving off in the sunset in a big old boat, blasting loud music and heading home to be with the rest of her family and friends who are waiting for her on the other side...

Today I was going through my Spotify playlists, listening to Eileen’s favourite songs, and I realized that I did not have a playlist dedicated to her. I’ve spent the last two hours creating a playlist that would do her proud. She loved her music, especially Jimi Hendrix, AC/DC, Elvis and anything Bluesy. Music was a major part of her life, when she was younger she saw many different artists, including Elvis. She is the reason why I love music more than anything, she has shaped my life in a way no other could. She taught us to enjoy life, and not to let anything get us down. She wouldn’t want us to be sad, she’d want us to go down to the bar and party. That was the type of life she lived. I wasn’t around for her partying days, but I saw a more reserved Eileen, who would tell stories of great times. She was very proud, and was not afraid to say what was on her mind. Eileen didn’t have an easy life, but she made the best of it and enjoyed her life. Whether it was driving fast, rocking hard or even sitting down and teaching the young ones the type of mindset they should have, she enjoyed life. I don’t think there will ever be a person who lived their life more fully than her. I know that she is happy. She will always be watching over us, keeping us positive. She will always be in our hearts, and ears in the form of the music she loved. Anytime we listen to Roadhouse Blues, Dirty Deeds or Who do you love, we will think of you Eileen. I will always love you.
May you be happy in your Cadillac.
