New Years Eve 2023 started like any other. Then at 4:30 PM received a call from the Alberta Health Services in Calgary. Informed me that my stepdad was in the hospital, the South Campus Hospital and we should make it to Calgary ASAP.

We had talked to him on Christmas Day everything was fine, he was under the weather but told us he would be okay. We were very familiar with this hospital as it was the same place where my mom passed away on March 16, 2016. Got things as organized as we could at home in Hinton. Left for Calgary on January 3rd. Arrived went the hospital and saw Ed, had brief conversations. Sat with him as much as possible. Ed had Cancer and seemed to be in remission for a while, then it came back with a vengeance like it normally can.

Ed Huczel passed away peacefully on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 4:30 am. Rest in Peace Ed. I’m sure you have been welcomed into Heaven with open arms. Thank you for the time we spent together on this Earth. Ed left me in charge of wrapping his life up here on Earth. Now comes the daunting task of unmasking the many memories, both Ed’s and Mom’s, that were left behind.
