Obituary for Edward Finley Anderson

Edward “Ed” Finley Anderson

It is with sadness that our family announces the death of Edward “Ed” Finley Anderson, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at the age of 92 years.

Ed is survived by his wife, Faith of Calgary; his son, Lourne (Karen) of Rimbey; his daughter, Shelly Rae (Ghanem) of Calgary; grandsons, Jayme of Edmonton, Kameron (Tammy) of Calgary and Kolyn (Morgan) of Langdon as well as five great-granddaughters, Thea, Hope, Esmee, Maiya and Yazmine. Ed was pre-deceased by his parents, JE “Ted” Anderson and Eveline “Evelyn” Anderson as well as an infant brother.

Ed was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on February 25, 1929. His parents Ted and Evelyn farmed near Taber, Alberta. Ed attended a technical school in Edmonton where he acquired Basic Mechanics credentials. Ted and Evelyn left the farm in 1955 and moved to Lethbridge, and thereafter Ed and Faith took over the farm. They ran a very successful operation with wheat, Angus cattle and a large hog operation. Ed was respected and well-liked by his neighbours and our parents had many dear friends in and around Taber. Dad was such a sociable guy; wherever Dad went, near or far, he almost always found someone he knew or knew of. He could start a conversation with anyone.

Ed and Faith left the farm in 1975 and moved to Lethbridge where they held successful careers in real estate. Later they went into the hotel business and bought the hotel in Black Diamond. Later on, they sold that hotel and bought the hotel in Bentley, Alberta. Both hotels were very successful. They finally retired in 1991 and moved to Calgary where they have lived until Ed’s passing.

Ed and Faith travelled widely, both in their younger years and in their retirement. They toured Southeast Asia, Australia and Central and South America. After retirement they bought a large 5th wheel trailer and a big diesel truck and headed south where they spent their winters in the McAllen/Harlingen area of Texas. Both Ed and Faith were long-time members of the Good Sam Club, Pioneer Chapter 1 in Calgary; they took many tours with the group and enjoyed helping with and attending social occasions with the same group. They travelled widely within the United States and made many dear friends along the way. When Shelly Rae and Ghanem were living in El Paso, Texas, Ed and Faith visited and stayed with them several times.
Ed was proud to be a 2nd degree Mason and was involved in the Masonic Lodge in Lethbridge. Several years ago, he received his 50-year jewel from the Masonic Lodge in Lethbridge, personally delivered by fellow Masons to his home in Calgary. Dad was also a long-time member of the Elks Lodge in Lethbridge before moving to Black Diamond. Above all he will be remembered as a kind man who loved his family.

According to Ed’s wishes he will be cremated with no formal funeral. A Graveside Service will be held at Archmount Cemetery in Lethbridge on Monday, June 14, 2021 at 2:00 pm with immediate family and close family friends in attendance. The Reverend Canon Erin Philips of St. Theodores Anglican Church in Taber will officiate.
