Obituary for Edie Hackman (Fame)

Momma passed peacefully at home with family & her puppy Taco by her side. đź’•

A friend like our mom doesn’t come along very often. She made all of the tough times easier & the best times even better. With a smile that lit up the room & a gigantic personality, her laughter was contagious! A story or joke never went untold without an f-bomb! She truly was the life of the party, belting out classic county songs any chance she was given & lemme tell ya there were lots of unforgettable kitchen parties!

Edie was a lover of life, selfless, never judged and always chose to see the the bright side. How do we tell the story of mom’s life in a few paragraphs, it’s near impossible...

All I know is this, we were all touched by her and no day will ever be the same without her.
We will be having a “party” (as mom referred to it) or “celebration of life” when we can gather after Covid restrictions are lifted. Her wish was to have all of her friends & family gather, share stories, laughs, pictures, with a good old country band & a little bit of dancing and drinking! (There’s an old joke in there somewhere).
In the meantime, have a wine (with ice of course) or a Mini jug of paralyzers, or get yourself a star badge from a polished off bottle of whiskey, or 4! Somehow all of us kids ended up with a badge that we proudly wore on our way home, or should I say to church after a late night party at the Gallant’s! These references may date some, probably all of you lol!).

Please share your pictures and memories to her FB timeline or memorial wall. Or go pull/poke a slot at the Grey Eagle casino & have a cheers with momma, high five her when you win, dbl high fives if you win big. Las Vegas was her favourite place, all the lights, Bells, and glam, what great times were had, on countless trips through the years! She loved all of her vacations from My Annie Beach, to Thailand, what she refers to as the most beautiful place on earth spent with some of her most treasured friends!

To say Edie will be greatly missed, is a gross understatement. Those nearest & dearest include her brother Sam, sister Anne, her kids Warren, Carla, Doug & Kim, including our spouses/families. Christie you were mom and I’s angel and we couldn’t have done this without you, thank you for giving mom her grace and dignity. To her “other daughters”, Chantal & Stephanie & her other sons Corbett & Kevin... our pops Willie Hackman, The gang at Timmies, Myrna, moms BFF, her extended cleaning family, & work husband & wife Dr Peter Finch & Dr Michelle Denny. All of her nieces & nephews, Warren and I’s first best friends, our cuzins Ken & Marcie, Kevin & Tara & Louie. She loved all of your visits, you made everyday count, especially this last month & hope you know what they meant to her. Edie, You truly were the best friend a person could have and an amazing mom, we are grateful for you and how much you enriched our lives. Personally, I am proud to say, I am the woman I am today because of YOU.

We wanted to share an affirmation mom spoke daily & the Divine Weaver, a poem she treasured, which explains life beautifully.

“I believe something wonderful or prosperous will happen to me today. This, or something better now manifests for me to the highest degree of all concerned”.

The Divine Weaver
My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me;
I cannot choose the colors
He works steadily.

Oftentimes He weaves sorrow
And I, in foolish pride,
Forget that He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Not until the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful
In the Weaver’s skillful hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

I am picking up momma right now and we are headed out on one of many adventures & road trips to come. First stop Chantal’s for wine & Banff next! Go rest high on that Mountain momma...you are a rare gem that unknowingly touched people so deeply and that’s what made you one of a kind.
