Obituary for Earl (Rob) Legg

Legg, Earl Robert (Rob)

With heavy hearts we announce that Robert 'Rob' Legg bravely finished his fight with cancer and passed away peacefully at his home in Calgary, AB on Thursday, February 11,2021 at the age of 70.

Rob leaves behind his beloved wife, Kerri; his cherished children, Chris (Trinity) Legg, Adam (Val) Legg and Jennifer Legg all of Great Falls, MT as well as his dear sisters, Pam (Jerry) Beasley of Juneau, AK and Tracie Legg of Helena, MT. Rob was also the proud grandfather of Dade, Wyatt, Kenzie and Kolter. Also grieving are his aunts, niece and nephews. Rob was predeceased by his father and mother, Earl and Shirley Legg and his sister, Joelyn Slade of Malta, MT.

Rob was born and raised in a small farming community in eastern Montana. After graduating (and foregoing an art scholarship) he went to college in Denver, CO before joining the US Navy where he qualified and graduated from UDT (Underwater Demolitions Team). He then served on the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise as an electronic tech.

After his service he and his wife Susan Potter moved to Great Falls to raise their family. Rob worked for the Montana Power company on hydro generation throughout Montana for 20 yrs. After he and Sue divorced and his children were grown, he moved to the Flathead Valley and worked as an electrician at the federal dam at Hungry Horse for 16 years until his retirement in 2013.

Rob married Kerri Atkinson in 2008 and lovingly added a son, Scott (Mikie) Atkinson, and a daughter, Meaghan (Jason) Cenaiko and grandchildren, Dean, Stirling, Faith and Prentice. He also finally got two brothers, Brett McIntosh and Darren (Sue) McIntosh.

In 2015 Rob, Kerri and his faithful dog, Stella moved to Coalhurst, AB so they could be central between all of their children.

Rob never quit learning. He was a voracious reader, researched all kinds of history, was an avid collector of firearms, had a side business gunsmithing, took a robotics course and learned to fly! His hit it rich dream was to buy a tugboat and travel the world.

He also loved the outdoors and sports. Baseball, golfing, fishing, competitive shooting. Ever the patriot, he quit watching football when the kneeling started and switched his allegiance to hockey instead (a prerequisite if you want to live in Canada anyway).

After his diagnosis Rob and Kerri moved to the kids' acreage to be closer to his medical team at Foothills Hospital. They set up his dream wood shop where he could spend his days and he enjoyed lazy evenings on the deck with Kerri and Stella watching the wildlife and the sunsets.

Our Rob was a good man! He had a sophisticated sense of humour that often took us a few minutes to catch up. He had a strong faith. You could ask him ANYTHING and he would answer honestly and with no judgement. He was strong and steady. Dependable, honest, loyal and he fiercely loved his family. His only regret in this life was that he should've spent less time working and more quality time with his kids and grandkids.

Nothing is ever totally lost.
That which is excellent remains forever
a part of the Universe.

We will get together with all who were lucky enough to know and love Rob once we are able to gather again.

Our deepest appreciation to his Health Care Team who made it possible for Rob to fight the good fight with compassion, dignity and unwavering support in the comfort of his own home. Special thanks to Mike Slater, Dr. S. Lupichuk, Lisa Douglas and Dr. M. LaBrie.
