Obituary for Douglas Lane McCallum

Douglas McCallum
October 14th, 1953 - April 6th, 2023

Doug Lane McCallum, 69 of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on April 6, 2023.

Doug was a spitfire of a young man and lived his life to the fullest. He was a disco roller skater, lover of hot rods, good old rock and roll and horror films. He was very lucky to have found his forever love at a young age. He saw a good thing and snapped it up. Vivian, his wife of 48 years, will carry a hole in her heart for the remainder of time. These two were the definition of two peas in a pod. Many search a lifetime for a relationship of kindness, admiration and loyalty and he was lucky to live it every day. The birth of his beautiful son Christopher completed his family and made him a proud father.

Doug was a car enthusiast, impeccable lifetime mechanic, and a free spirit on the highway. He was a man of strong values and integrity, and he never hesitated to help others out of the kindness of his heart.

Adapting to different health situations over his lifetime, Doug never drew attention to his challenges. He was unafraid to speak up on what he believed in, but was always open to listening to others. With a twinkle in his eye and always ready with a quirky comeback or a heart felt belly laugh.

Doug loved the simplicity of life – whether in a lawn chair beside his motorhome, on the back deck of his cruiser floating in the Okanagan or enjoying a delicious dinner and drink with friends. This was his happy place, creating countless unforgettable memories. Even in the last few days, he told stories from throughout his life which entertained and showed the spunk he had for life.

His legacy will be carried on forever by all who knew him, reminding us that life is short, to enjoy every minute and never think you are better than the next guy.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff at the Foothills hospital for supporting Doug and Vivian.
