Obituary for Doris Siemens

Doris Siemens (nee Dyck)
August 20, 1932 – April 19, 2023

Doris Siemens was born at home on a farm near Laird, Saskatchewan on August 20, 1932. She was the ninth of eleven children born to Jacob and Justina Dyck. From her birth until 1951, she lived in the Laird area, attending school, going to church and helping her family on the farm. In 1951, she lived in Saskatoon and attended Normal School in order to become a teacher. From 1952 until 1959, she taught for the Rosthern School Unit, often in a one-room school.

On July 25, 1958, Doris married Rudy Siemens of Medstead, SK. She taught in the Medstead School for four years until Harvey and Heather were born. She returned to teaching in 1966 while Rudy farmed. Next, they moved to North Battleford for a year, and then onto Edam, SK where Karen was born. Rudy worked for International Harvester at this time, and Doris was a homemaker.

In 1971, they moved to Lloydminster, first living in town, and later moving to the acreage where they lived for 15 years. During this time, Doris was involved in many church activities from teaching Sunday School, singing in choirs, hosting events, and building a home for her family. She also worked part time at Rutherford Agencies, an insurance broker in town.

On December 16, 1989, Rudy passed away. Doris decided to sell the acreage and join Karen in Saskatoon for her remaining three years of university. While in Saskatoon, she worked at two different insurance offices until her retirement in 1997. She continued to be involved in church activities such as senior home visitation and Bible studies.

In 2004, Doris decided to move to Calgary to be closer to her family. She enjoyed seeing her children and grandchildren at every opportunity. She loved having them over for Sunday faspa whenever she could.

Doris passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 90, on Wednesday April 19, 2023 after suffering a stroke on April 7, 2023. She leaves to mourn her children and their spouses, Harvey and Jackie Siemens, Heather and David Namur, and Karen and George Prytulak; her grandchildren, Melissa and Jordan Barnes, Megan and Ethan Reed, Kirstin Siemens, Bethany Namur, Logan Namur, Steven Prytulak, and Daniel Prytulak; her great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Landry, and Bodavan Barnes and Benjamin, Pearl, Nathan, and Bailey Reed.

She will be greatly missed!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris’ memory to either Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Samaritan’s Purse.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Brentview Baptist Church (3512 Charleswood Dr NW, Calgary, AB).
