Obituary for Jack Chow

A It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and grandfather, Jack Chow, on April 7, 2022 at the age of 90.

Jack was born in Guangdong, China, and emigrated to Canada in 1956. He began what would be his future career in the restaurant business.

His fiancee, Elaine later immigrated from Hong Kong, and they were married on October 15, 1959 in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Jack and Elaine welcomed their daughter Jacquie in 1960, and shortly after, moved to Taber where Jack joined the Taber Cafe.

They moved back to Lethbridge in 1969, where he joined the New World Restaurant. He and his partners then opened the Golden Bridge restaurant on November 15, 1971. He loved serving customers, greeting them with a handshake and a smile. He took well-deserved early retirement at 55 to enjoy more time with Elaine.

Jack was a determined, hard-working, loyal & loving husband, father and grandfather. He was always the first person to lend a hand to anyone, and do so with a big smile. He was tremendously proud of each member of his family and loved them deeply.

He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Jacquie Chow-Rempel (Curtis); his granddaughter, Catherine; and his grandson, Matthew (Juliana). Jack is predeceased by his wife, Elaine.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at 11:00 am at Foothills Alliance Church (333 Edgepark Blvd NW, Calgary, AB).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Cambridge Manor for their compassionate and thoughtful care of Jack. Sincere thanks also to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Foothills Hospital Cardiac unit.
