Obituary for Dolores Marie Bollinger (Donais)

Bollinger, Dolores Marie

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Dolores Bollinger on February 20, 2021. Dolores was born on October 1, 1931 in Arcola, SK to Malvina and Henry Donais. In 1945, her family relocated to Indian Head, SK where Dolores spent her teenage years. By the mid-1950’s, Dolores had met and married her life partner Edward Bollinger, graduated as a registered nurse (RN) from the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina, SK and started a family. In 1968, the family of six moved to Calgary, AB where they settled into the community of Lakeview – Dolores’ home until 2020.

DeeDee, as she was known, took great pride in her nursing training and continued to make use of her skills long after she retired. At the same time, she created a warm and inviting home for her family and was an inclusive hostess who firmly believed ‘the more, the merrier.’ DeeDee’s creativity and organizational skills were evident in everything she took on – from leading singalongs at parties while she played the piano to cross-stitching exquisite pictures and baking the world’s best cinnamon buns.
Even as Alzheimer’s claimed her memory and health in recent years, the true essence of DeeDee remained to the end – her love of music, the beauty she found in nature and above all, the genuine care she felt for others. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Dolores leaves behind her daughters Laurie Johnston, Terri (Chris) Craig, Dawn (Tim Ellam) Bollinger and son, Michael Bollinger, grandchildren Ryan (Aynsley Kirk) Johnston, Lindsay Johnston, Paige Johnston, Evan Craig, Morgan (Chloe Mansfield) Craig, Quinlan Craig and Brittany Ellam and great-grandchildren Tiernan, Rhys, Aven and Callie Johnston. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years Edward, her parents, brother Armand Donais, sister and lifelong best friend Annette Doerr, grandson Bennett Craig and son-in-law Ron Johnston.

Our family would like to thank the Mayfair Care Centre staff for caring for Dolores with such compassion and respect in her final year. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dolores’s memory to Alzheimer Society of Canada.

A Celebration of Dolores’ Life and joint interment with her beloved husband will be held at a later date.
